Belfries and beguinages…

Living in Belgium has its benefits. In many of our cities you’ll find large watchtowers (known as belfries) and the remainders of closed religious communities of devout women, known as beguinages: architecturally distinct unities within cities, composed of small houses, a church and a (mostly central) green space.

In 2013, we visited some more of these beautiful entities, as well as a few belfries in the north of France.
